A Quick Breakdown of The Process
1. Why does Helios School require cognitive assessment for admission?
Helios School requires cognitive assessment as part of their comprehensive admission process for Kindergarten through Grade 2 applicants. This assessment helps Helios understand each child's learning profile, cognitive strengths, and developmental readiness for their innovative educational approach.
Dr. Estupinian has over a decade of experience specifically assessing child applicants for Helios School, giving her unique insight into what Helios values in cognitive profiles. Her extensive experience with Helios families means she understands the school's educational philosophy and can provide assessments that truly reflect your child's potential to thrive in Helios's learning environment.
Important: There are only a limited number of testing appointments available during admission season - we recommend booking as soon as possible to secure your spot.
2. How much time should I plan for my child's assessment appointment?
Plan for 1.5 to 2 hours for your child's cognitive assessment appointment. While the actual testing typically takes about 90 minutes, Dr. Estupinian allows extra time to ensure your child feels comfortable and can perform at their best.
The assessment includes natural break times when your child needs them, and Dr. Estupinian never rushes the process. Some children work more quickly, while others benefit from a slower pace - she adapts to your child's individual rhythm and attention span.
What to Expect:
• Comfortable, child-friendly environment designed to reduce anxiety
• Natural breaks incorporated throughout the session
• One-on-one attention from Dr. Estupinian
• Engaging activities that feel more like games than tests
This unhurried approach ensures accurate results that truly reflect your child's cognitive abilities for their Helios School application.
3. What happens to my child's test results after the assessment?
Your child's cognitive assessment results follow a parent-controlled process that puts you in charge of how the information is shared:
Step 1: Results Come to You First
• You receive the complete assessment report within 2-5 business days
• Dr. Estupinian schedules a personal consultation to review the results with you
• You have time to understand your child's cognitive profile before any school receives the information
Step 2: School Transmission with Your Approval
• Results are never released to Helios School without your explicit instructions and approval
• Dr. Estupinian will electronically transmit the report directly to Helios School's admission office only when you give permission
• You maintain complete control over the timing and sharing of your child's information
Bonus: Free Additional Reports
If you're applying to multiple schools, there are no additional charges for sending copies of the report to two other schools. This makes it easy to include the assessment in multiple applications without extra costs.

Answers to some of the most common questions parents have asked us over the years
How much does the evaluation cost?
The assessment cost $825 and includes up to a 2 hour testing appointment. Our office will send the report directly to Harker School after you provide permission.
How long will the assessment take?
Most children take between 60 min to 2 hours to complete the evaluation. We offer a 2-hour appointment time so we can take breaks as needed.
How do I prepare my child for the assessment?
There is nothing you can do, or should do, to "coach" or prepare your child for the assessment. The purpose of the examination is to assess each child's abilities without preparation. We encourage you not to put any pressure on your child about his or her test performance prior to the appointment. Your child should not prepare or study for the evaluation. Please be aware that prior exposure to test materials, preparation exercises and questions will invalidate the results.
What do I say to my child about the appointment?
You may tell your child that they will be doing some fun and interesting activities during the appointment, and you can encourage them by telling them, "just do your best". Avoid telling your child that it is a play date as this may affect their performance on the assessment. I will work with your child to keep them engaged and provide breaks as needed.
What if my child is sick on the day of the evaluation?
If your child is sick on the day of the appointment or has been sick 5 days prior to the appointment, please call our office to reschedule. We will do everything possible to find another opening for your child, as soon as our schedule permits.
What payment methods does your office accept?
All major credit cards.
Where can I wait during the testing session?
We prefer to have only one parent can come with the child. We will meet together with your child at the beginning of the appointment to make sure your child feels comfortable working with me. During the testing process you will be able to wait in our lobby. We encourage a quite environment so that your child can do their best. If you would like to make a telephone call during this time, we request you step outside of the office to make calls.
Anything else I need to know prior to the assessment?
1. Please give yourself plenty of time to get to the office. The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed your child will be when they arrive.
2. Please be sure your child has received a good night's rest and a meal prior to the appointment.
3. If your child wears glasses or hearing aids, please bring those items to the appointment.
Where can I call if I have more questions?
You can reach our office at 844-802-6512. Our staff will be available Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm, excluding holidays.
Do I have to pay more to send a copy of the report to another school?
The fee covers the cost of sending two additional reports to the school of your choice. However, it does not include the costs associated with sending a copy of the report to other organizations. Please contact our office with specific requests.
